Privacy training

If you work in the Kings Cross precinct and operate an ID scanner in a high-risk venue, you need to obtain a privacy endorsement. You can only obtain a privacy endorsement by completing the online privacy training course

ID scanners are machines that electronically read and store identification cards, such as a driver licence or proof of age.

Licensees and staff must comply with the Privacy Act 1988 in the protection of any personal information recorded by an ID scanner operating in the venue.

Privacy training course

The Privacy training course will help ensure licensees and staff understand:

  • privacy laws
  • legal requirements when scanning a patron's ID
  • the importance of protecting personal information.

The Privacy Course online is free, but you will have to pay $30 to add the Privacy training on your photo competency card.

Please note that Information Sheet (Private Sector) 20 Scanning ''Proof of Identity'' Documents and Information Sheet (Private Sector) 30 ID scanning in clubs and pubs have been archived as it is related to law that is no longer current. In its place, FAQs on ID scanning have been developed for businesses and individuals. Please read these FAQs as part of the completion of the Privacy training course.

Requirements

You can only do the Privacy training if you've completed the Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) course and have a photo competency card.

You will need:

  • a computer and internet for about 30 minutes
  • your competency card number to access the online course.

Once you complete and pass the course, you will recieve an interim certiciate. It is valid for 28 days.

Adding your privacy endorsement to your competency card

Complete the online form to add your privacy endorsement to your competency card. A new competency card will be posted to you.

Privacy endorsement online form

Alternatively, you can complete the CC0550 Payment for privacy endorsement on Competency Card form and email it to competency.card@liquorandgaming.nsw.gov.au.

You will not be able to work with ID scanners if your interim certificate expires and you have not received your new photo competency card.
