More than 1,800 submissions to independent review of Liquor Laws

Issued: Tuesday 5 April 2016

The Callinan Review into the 1.30am lock out, 3am cease of alcohol service, 10pm take-away liquor restriction and annual liquor licence fees has received more than 1,800 submissions.

The formal submission period for the independent review by the Hon Ian Callinan AC QC opened on 5 March 2016 and officially closed at midnight last night.

A total of 1,856 submissions had been received as of this morning from a wide range of organisations and individuals, with the vast majority relating to the 1.30am lock out and 3am cease alcohol service restriction.

Public input is a key part of the review process, and all submissions received will be considered and taken into account by the review.

Copies of submissions will be posted on the independent review’s website at www.liquorlawreview.justice.nsw.gov.au from 18 April unless submission makers have specifically requested they not be published due to confidentiality reasons.

Feedback received by the review prior to the opening of the formal submission period on 5 March, including more than 570 emails and other correspondence, is also being considered by the review.

The review is consulting with government, industry and community stakeholders, and will consider a range of statistical data relating to alcohol-related violence and anti-social behaviour, to inform its findings.

Mr Callinan will provide his final report to the NSW Government in August 2016.
