The NSW Government has appointed Mr Tony Hodgson AM as the new Deputy Chairperson of the Racing NSW Board.

Acting Minister for Racing David Elliott said Mr Hodgson had also been re-appointed as a member of the board for an additional three years.

He will replace current Deputy Chairperson Russell Balding AO, who will become Chairperson of Racing NSW from 1 January following the retirement of John Messara AM.

Mr Elliott said Mr Hodgson, who has been a Racing NSW board member since 2011, contributes valuable knowledge, experience and capability to the governance of thoroughbred racing in NSW.

“During his tenure on the board, Mr Hodgson has played a significant role in helping establish the Championships, a destination event to reinvigorate the Sydney Autumn Carnival as the state’s premier racing event, increasing prize money to over $200 million per year and introducing stronger integrity measures,” Mr Elliott said.

Mr Hodgson is a Certified Practising Accountant, Fellow of the Australian Institute of Chartered Accountants and Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
