There are two types of competency cards:
The front of the card shows your photo, name, card number and expiry date, and the class or type of training you've completed.
The back of the card explains the class type. You may have one or all of these listed on the card:
The digital card works both online and offline (that is, no wi-fi is required) and can be accessed from any smartphone or tablet where you can login to the Service NSW App.
The digital card screen shows your photo, name, card number and expiry date, and the class or type of training you have completed.
An added security feature, whether you are online or offline, is that the logo and agency name will disappear and be replaced by a six digit code every five seconds. This six digit code will be refreshed every five minutes and will match the code appearing on the Liquor & Gaming NSW compliance officer checker app, verifying validity
RSA and RCG competency cards are valid for five years.
If you have more than one qualification on the card, it expires five years after the date of the first course.
90 days before the initial five year expiry, you can renew the card for a further five years only via the Liquor & Gaming NSW refresher course.
Working with an expired competency card is illegal and you may get a fine.
Note: a photo competency card is called a 'recognised competency card' in the Liquor Regulation 2008 and the Gaming Machines Regulation 2010.
