​Local Impact Assessment of gaming machines review

Liquor & Gaming NSW has reviewed the Local Impact Assessment (LIA) Scheme under the Gaming Machines Act 2001 (the Act).

The review:

  • evaluated whether the LIA scheme helps to achieve balanced development of the gaming industry, including robust harm minimisation
  • identified opportunities for improving the operation of the LIA scheme.

Stakeholders were invited to lodge a public submission to have their say on the issues being considered as part of this review. 

The deadline for lodging a public submission was Sunday, 18 June 2017.

Outcome of the review

Liquor & Gaming NSW has published a final review report here (PDF, 848KB).

On 6 March 2018 the NSW Government announced reforms going before the NSW Parliament to better protect communities from problem gambling risks, and increase transparency around the application process for additional gaming machines.
