Keep your patrons safe over the Australia Day long weekend

Australia Day is high risk for alcohol related incidents. This year Australia Day falls on a Friday, making it a long weekend for many people in NSW, and potentially increasing the risk for your premises and customers.

To ensure that everyone can enjoy this time of year safely, please keep in mind that:

  • people may start their long weekend celebrations from Australia Day eve, Thursday, 25 January
  • the long weekend also falls at the end of the school holiday, and there may be increased risk of minors trying to purchase alcohol or enter licensed premises
  • our Compliance Officers will be active across NSW during the long weekend conducting inspections of licensed premises.

We are committed to ensuring that Australia Day long weekend festivities are conducted in a safe and responsible manner. In the lead up to Australia Day, we are meeting with a number licensees and managers to provide advice on best practice and remaining compliant over the long weekend.

We are also monitoring the industry for irresponsible liquor promotions, and will take action to restrict or prohibit dangerous activities. Please remember that promotions encouraging the excessive consumption of alcohol do not comply with liquor promotion guidelines.
