Issued by Minister for Racing Paul Toole
Hotels and registered clubs screening live telecasts of the Commonwealth Games will be able to trade beyond 10pm on the next two Sunday nights, Minister for Racing Paul Toole said today.
The later trading, until midnight on April 8 and 11pm on April 15, will allow patrons to gather at venues and watch the Games on big screens with their friends and family.
“The NSW Government is pleased to extend Sunday closing times for pubs and clubs so people can get into the spirit of the Games and cheer for Australia,” Mr Toole said.
“The Government regularly extends hotel and club trading times for special sporting events including the Olympic Games, and football and rugby World Cups.”
Mr Toole said the later trading on Sunday 8 April will give fans the chance to watch competitions including swimming, athletics, basketball or hockey.
Sunday 15 April will feature the Games’ closing ceremony.
The approval allows hotels and clubs to stay open for on-premises sales and consumption. It does not permit takeaway alcohol sales during the extended period.
Venues must still comply with any individual trading restrictions or other special conditions that apply to their licences under the Liquor Act.
Venues already approved to trade beyond the extended trading hours are not impacted by these special arrangements.
