Lockout requirements have been relaxed across venues in the Oxford St – Darlinghurst area PDF, 173.69 KB for the 41st Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade on Saturday 2 March.
The exemption means patrons can continue to be admitted at venues in the area surrounding the parade beyond the usual 1.30am or 2am times on the morning of Sunday 3 March.
Venues will still need to stop serving alcohol at 3am, or 3.30am for venues with live entertainment extensions, and comply with their other licence conditions.
The Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras is an internationally renowned event that attracts visitors from all over the world and injects around $40 million into the NSW economy. Due to the popularity of the event, large crowds are expected.
Relaxing the lockout restriction will help manage crowds and give people more time to make their way to nearby LGBTI-focused venues and events when the parade finishes.
Police and Liquor & Gaming NSW inspectors will be present across central Sydney to ensure venues are providing a safe environment for people to celebrate.
