Ministerial media release: Innovative ideas sought to target gambling harm

Issued by Minister for Racing Paul Toole

Local communities are invited to get involved to help prevent and reduce problem gambling by developing innovative projects through a new $1 million Responsible Gambling Fund initiative.

Minister for Racing Paul Toole said the program would support a wide range of projects such as new technology, research and evaluation, new treatment concepts and community awareness campaigns.

“This new grants program is a key part of the NSW Government’s commitment to prevent and reduce problem gambling in the community,” Mr Toole said.

“The Responsible Gambling Fund is particularly interested in supporting innovative projects based on new technology such as apps that could help at-risk gamblers limit their gambling.

“Applications will go through a competitive merit-based selection process.”

The Responsible Gambling Fund Trust was recently overhauled with the appointment of nine highly qualified experts in public health, law, government and social research to advise the NSW Government on responsible gambling.

A new Office of Responsible Gambling has also been set up to support the Trust, drive innovative policy and implement initiatives to promote responsible gambling.

Applications for the first round of the Grants Program are open from Monday 23 July to Monday 13 August.

The Office of Responsible Gambling has more information including details on how to apply.
