New licence for pop-up bars and events

Friday, 16 October 2020: updated information about pop-up licence is available. Please visit the Pop-up bar and events licence page.

On 1 March Liquor & Gaming NSW begins a 12 month-trial of a new liquor licence for pop-up bars and events in seven Sydney precincts, to help activate and revitalise indoor and outdoor spaces and diversify the night-time economy.

The trial aims to support innovative social, cultural and business offerings and make it easier for entrepreneurs, creatives and other businesses to run pop-up bars and events for up to six-weeks.

You can run a pop-up bar or events such as pop-up restaurants, live entertainment or arts shows in one of seven trial areas.

The new licence will cater for:

  • pop-up bars that serve up to 100 patrons at any time
  • pop-up events with up to 300 patrons – provided serving alcohol is not the main feature of the event.

Find out more about the trial and how to apply on our website.
