Uptown Grant Program Round 2
From 1 July 2024, venues with more than 20 gaming machine entitlements will be required to have a Responsible Gambling Officer on duty while poker machines are in operation, in the latest initiative by the NSW Government to reduce gambling harm. Additional Responsible Gambling Officers will be required at clubs with more than 100 gaming machine entitlements. All hotels and clubs with gaming machines will also be required to keep a Gambling Incident Register and a Gaming Plan of Management as part of a suite of reforms being implemented to reduce risk of gambling harm and support people who may need help. New documents have been published that set out Liquor & Gaming NSW’s approach to compliance and enforcement, and our compliance, enforcement and assurance priorities for the next three years. Our updated Compliance & Enforcement Policy sets out the principles that inform our compliance and enforcement decision-making processes, our governance arrangements, and our approach to regulatory activities and information sharing. The Delivery Plan 2024-2026 and Casino Delivery Plan 2024-2026 consider the risks of harm we have identified in the liquor, gaming, wagering, registered club and casino sectors, and set out the tools and programs L&GNSW will use to address those risks.
The Annual Liquor Licence Fee (ALLF) program for 2024 is fast approaching. The first round of ALLF payment notices will be sent via Email and SMS on Monday 25 March 2024. Liquor & Gaming NSW has developed a new Licensee Refresher online course covering the requirements for licensees, approved managers, and club secretaries to renew their Licensee, Advanced Licensee, and RSA endorsements in the one course, for one fee. Renewal of Licensee endorsements is required every 5 years, therefore, 2024 introduces the first round of Licensee renewals. The Licensee Refresher online course is now live and covers a range of content designed to educate, refresh, and assess on key compliance areas and new industry developments.

The NSW Independent Liquor and Gaming Authority (ILGA) has revised Guideline 16 – Late-night gaming applications to reflect ILGA’s position on late-night gaming. Guideline 16 sets out the way in which ILGA approaches applications which have the effect of increasing access to late-night (post-midnight) gaming in NSW.

The Office of the 24-Hour Economy Commissioner has announced the Uptown Grant Program Round 2 is open for applications. The Uptown Program is designed to fast-track the formation of local business communities and facilitate the growth of their districts into vibrant going-out hubs in line with the NSW Government’s 24-Hour Economy Strategy for Greater Sydney. Round 2 of the Uptown Grant Program will provide up to $200,000 (excl. GST) for new recipients and up to $100,000 (excl. GST) for previous recipients.
