To obtain an RCG competency under the new RCG training framework, you need to:

  • Complete an RCG course with an approved training provider, and
  • Pass the L&GNSW RCG online assessment.

The new online assessment ensures consistency and integrity of the RCG assessment process across NSW.

After you successfully complete the RCG course with an approved training provider (ATP) and they lodge the course with L&GNSW, within a few minutes you will receive an email with a link to access your assessment.

If you have also provided a mobile number when enrolling in the course, you will also be sent an SMS with a link to access the assessment.

Please ensure that you have provided your current email address and mobile number when enrolling in the course.

You should complete your online assessment as soon as you receive the email notification.

There are no time limits to completing the assessment. However, you need to pass the assessment to obtain an RCG Interim Certificate to work in duties that involve gaming machines in NSW.

No further email or SMS reminders will be sent to you. The onus is on you as the student to complete the assessment to obtain an RCG competency.

Once you successfully complete the RCG online assessment, you will instantly receive your interim certificate via email.

The RCG interim certificate allows you to work immediately and is valid for 90 days. For more on how to get your RCG competency card, refer to the Certification and competency card information on the Responsible Conduct of Gambling (RCG) page.

If you have not received your email and link from OneGov you should check:

  • that your training provider has lodged your course with L&GNSW
  • your junk or spam folders, and
  • if there are any issues or changes to your email address.

If you are still unable to locate the email, contact L&GNSW at competency.card@liquorandgaming.nsw.gov.au for assistance.

Click the link in the email or SMS notification from L&GNSW to launch the assessment.

The online assessment consists of 25 questions, mostly multiple choice and multiple answer questions, with unlimited attempts to successfully answer each question as you go.

You must correctly answer all 25 questions to pass the assessment.

An interim certificate will be issued to you once you successfully pass the assessment which will be valid for 90 days.

You can do the assessment on your desktop, laptop, smart phone, or tablet and refer to your RCG Participant Workbook as you go.

As you work through the module, carefully read the information provided, and follow the instructions and any pop-up prompts.

Don’t refresh your browser before you finish. If you leave the assessment or lose connection, you will be taken back to where you left off when you go back in again.

You will have successfully received the OneGov email with the link to the RCG online assessment.

Please check your remaining contact details on the page that appears after you successfully complete all the assessment questions in the RCG online assessment module.

If these contact details have changed since, or don’t exactly match the primary ID you have brought in to apply for your card, you can ask the Service NSW customer service representative to update your details when you get there.

Note: If you already hold an RSA competency card, you do not need to attend a Service NSW service centre. Update your contact details:

If you already hold an NSW RSA competency card and have completed a Proof of identity (POI) check at a Service NSW centre, you will be automatically sent a new card with your updated competencies including the RCG.

If you do not hold an RSA competency card you will need to take the RCG interim certificate to a Service NSW centre along with 100 points of ID to complete the POI check. Your new card will then be sent to you by mail within four weeks.

Visit Service NSW to learn more about the NSW Digital Competency card.

You can get the digital version of your competency card as soon as you visit Service NSW and have your photo taken and Proof of Identity checked. Refer to the L&GNSW website here for more information on how to get your digital card.
